1) Apple Picking
Apple picking is a perfect autumn activity. Head out and pick your own apples and bake them into pies and cobblers with family and friends. If you don’t have apple trees on your property, no worries, pickings abound at local orchards that offer u-pick opportunities as well as sweet treats for sale. Don’t forget those caramel apples! Yum!
2) Pumpkin Carving
Pumpkin carving is an age-old fall tradition that can be traced back to early Native American tribes. Carving pumpkins is fun, but it’s also a great way to get kids involved with traditions. This Halloween, try carving pumpkins as a family! If you live alone or don’t have any young children around, there are plenty of adult pumpkin carving traditions you can try. Head down to your local bar and see if anyone else is ready for some seasonal fun! Look online for other pumpkin traditions; there are lots of creative ways people participate every year. You could even start your own tradition; carve three pumpkins instead of one (two small ones on either side of a larger one) and place them all on your front porch. Your neighbors will think it’s great!
3) Enjoy Cooler Weather
Don’t be mistaken: there are plenty of things to love about summer. But don’t you want a break from heat and humidity? One of fall’s best features is that it brings cooler weather. Enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, biking, or walking without dealing with too much sweat. And with less sun exposure, you won’t have to worry as much about sunburn or skin cancer either. Better yet, cool weather means the holiday shopping season will soon be upon us—which means there are many fun things for you to look forward to!
4) Go to a Football Game
Football season is a great excuse to hang out with friends and family and cheers for your favorite team. If you’re looking for ways to enjoy fall, check out your local university or football league schedule and purchase tickets for an upcoming game! Chances are, there’s something exciting going on near you; we suggest finding a match-up with a few fun facts about fall attached. From tailgating parties, food trucks serving pumpkin beer, and custom cheerleader outfits – there’s no shortage of autumn spirit at college games! For those that aren’t quite as into American football as others, try going somewhere else that screams fall – from apple picking farms, pumpkin patches, and scarecrow displays.
5) Learn Something New
If you’re looking for something fun to do during your free time, why not pick up a new skill? There are tons of ways to learn how to fall—how to skateboard, how to hang glide, how to write poetry—at any age. While you’re out having fun with friends and family over the next few months, set aside some time to learn something new. You may end up loving it! And if you don’t, at least there’s one more thing on your fall bucket list that you can cross off.
6) Take Pictures
Though you’ll have fewer hours of sunlight in fall, there are some great things about fall that make up for it. You can go apple picking at your local orchard or take pictures of leaves changing colors with your family. Enjoy a variety of festivals in autumn, including chili cook-offs and Oktoberfests. With football season underway, tailgate outside with friends before home games or catch a few college games on TV. Keep reading for ten things to do in the fall season! 7) Wear Boots and Coats
Shoes and coats are necessary during fall, but you’ll have a lot more fun if you get ones that you enjoy wearing. If it’s been a while since you bought shoes, buying boots is a great way to spice up your wardrobe. There are many styles of boots from tall military-style thigh-high combat boots to short leather boots with buckles. For a classic look, try ankle or mid-calf height. If it’s been years since you bought new coats, buy one of each season so that you can have something to wear no matter what time of year it is. There are lots of different styles available like trench coats for winter and lighter jackets for spring and summer.
8) Cuddle Under Blankets
One of my favorite things about fall is cuddling up under a warm blanket on a cold evening. There’s nothing like snuggling with your loved ones as you take in a movie or some TV. It’s not just an enjoyable experience, though: engaging in such activities has also been proven to increase positive feelings and better overall health. So spend time with those you love most during these colder months—and reap the psychological benefits along with them! Here are ten ways to make that happen.
9) Have a campfire
Campfires are great for telling scary stories with friends or singing campfire songs. Campfires are fun, especially when you roast marshmallows, make smores, and create memories. If you haven’t had a fire in a while, go ahead and light one up during your fall season! You can also try making candy apples and caramel corn. Whatever is on your list, enjoy it with family and friends around a roaring bonfire!
I hope you enjoy this fall season with your friends and family. There are plenty more things besides what I listed above. I’ve also written a Fall Bucket list. Use the bucket list as a challenge to experience all the fun Fall has to offer.
